High Index Lenses

What are High Index Lenses?

A high index lens is a lens that has a higher “index” of refraction. The higher "index" of refraction has a greater ability to bend light rays to provide clear vision for people with stronger prescription glasses.  In the past, strong prescriptions meant dealing with a thicker, heavier lens that produced a "coke bottle" appearance.  Dealing with these unwanted effects from having a strong presciption are a thing of the past.

High index lenses are manufactured to be thinner, lighter, and more visually appealing.  This type of lens is a preferred option for people who have strong prescriptions.  When compared to ordinary lenses, high index lens are able to use less material while bending the light rays more to correct a strong presciption.

For better comfort, clearer vision, and improved cosmetic appeal, people with strong prescriptions now have a lens that will allow for all this! For more information about high index lenses call us at Avery Ranch Eye Care!
